DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
[Project No. 2612-005, Maine]
Central Maine Power Company; Notice of Availability of Final
Environmental Assessment
February 4, 1999.
In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969
and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (Commission's)
regulations, 18 CFR Part 380 (Order No. 486, 52 F.R. 47897), the Office
of Hydropower Licensing has reviewed the application for relicensing of
the Flagstaff Project, located in Somerset and Franklin Counties,
Maine, and has prepared a Final Environmental Assessment (FEA) for the
project. On December 17, 1997, the Commission staff issued and
distributed to all parties a Draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) on
the project, and requested that comments be filed with the Commission
within 30 days. Comments were filed and are addressed in the FEA. The
FEA contains staff's analysis of the potential environmental impacts of
the existing project and has concluded that approval of the project,
with appropriate environmental protection measures, would not
constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality
of the human environment.
Copies of the FEA are available for review in the Public Reference
Branch, Room 2-A, of the Commission's offices at 888 First Street,
N.E., Washington, D.C. 20426. The EA may also be viewed on the web at
www.ferc.fed.us. Please call (202) 208-2222 for assistance.
