Bld 42 - Library

[Picture of the GED Library]The Gulf Ecology Division library is located in a Creole style cottage built in the early 1900s.

The building originally served as the physician's residence when the Pensacola Quarantine Station occupied the island from 1906 to 1925.

The facility was expanded in 1979 by enclosing a side porch and again in 1992 by adding a room to the back. Enclosed floor space now measures approximately 1,450 square feet.

The GED Library supports the research and administrative functions of the laboratory by providing a wide range of information services and by maintaining an extensive resource collection.

 This collection comprises

  • 10,000 volumes
  • 340 journal titles
  • 30,000 documents in paper copy and microform.
The GED Library provides access to scientific and technical information appearing in print, in microform, and in electronic formats.  The Online Library System (OLS) includes holdings of the GED Library.

 Subject areas include

  • aquatic toxicology
  • environmental monitoring
  • estuarine research
  • marine ecology
  • microbiology
  • pathobiology
  • pesticide science
The GED Library also serves as a focal point for access to published results of Gulf Ecology Division research.
