Areas of Specialization
  • Estuarine and benthic ecology
  • Environmental monitoring including survey designs, development of ecological indicators, and data analysis
Current Research
  • National Coastal Assessment (NCA) - Develop tools and methods to assess the ecological condition of estuaries at regional and national scales. The NCA has culminated in a series of National Coastal Condition Reports (I - IV) that provide a report card on the status of estuaries in the U.S. The NCA has evolved into the National Coastal Condition Assessment (NCCA), a program implemented by EPA's Office of Water to survey the nation's estuaries every 5 years.
  • Wetland Ecosystem Services - Develop tools and methods to assess the condition of coastal wetlands in the Gulf of Mexico and to translate ecological indicators of wetland condition into estimates of wetland ecosystem services.
