Tampa Bay Ecosystem Services

Research on the large-scale physical, chemical, and biological dynamics of coastal wetlands and estuaries, with emphasis on the Gulf of Mexico.

Land Use / Land Cover

Ecosystem goods and services are produced at different levels by different areas of the land and sea-scape. Land use / cover maps provide useful templates for scientists to apply estimated quantities of ecosystem goods and services. This combination of maps and scientific information provides resource managers with a way to assess the effects of changing land use /cover on the production of ecosystem goods and services. The major categories of land use produce different sets of ecosystem goods and services and at different levels (Production Matrix). Not all land uses or cover types have sufficient information to estimate ecosystem goods and services production for. Gaps in scientific data associated with specific land use /cover types serve as guides for future research.
