Great Lakes Monitoring
Air Indicators
PAHs In Air
Atmospheric Concentrations of PAHs Through 2002

Goal: Decrease sources to the Great Lakes and achieve declines in air concentrations.
Status: PAHs are produced by combustion of fossil fuels and other organic substances. PAH levels are often higher in urban areas due to higher densities of industry, autos, etc.
Trends: Since PAHs continue to be emitted into the air, concentrations have remained relatively constant.
Issues: Since industrial production is likely to continue and expand on a worldwide basis, further industrial controls are needed in the U.S. as well as worldwide in order to reduce PAH emissions.
