Great Lakes Dredged Material Testing & Evaluation Manual

Purpose and Authority

This manual presents guidance on testing and evaluation for proposed discharges of dredged material into the United States waters of the Great Lakes Basin.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Regions 2, 3, and 5, the USEPA Great Lakes National Program Office, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Great Lakes & Ohio River Division, have jointly prepared this regional guidance under the authority provided in 40 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Section 230.2(c), pursuant to the requirements of Section 404(b)(1) of the Clean Water Act (CWA), Public Law 92-500. This regional guidance is consistent with the national guidance presented in Evaluation of Dredged Material Proposed for Discharge in Waters of the U.S. - Testing Manual (USEPA/USACE, 1998), also known as the "Inland Testing Manual."
