Hog Island/Newtown Creek Project
Completion of Sediment Cleanup Ceremony

November 28, 2005 marked the completion of the sediment cleanup at Hog Island, Superior Wisconsin. Great Lakes National Program Office Director Gary Gulezian joined Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and 85 residents, local officials, and legislative aids to celebrate this event.  The project removed nearly 55,000 tons of contaminated sediment from Newton Creek and Hog Island Inlet. Further replanting and re-seeding will occur in the spring of 2006, and the local community is developing plans for further restoration of the area.
