U.S. Government Progress Report on Great Lakes Restoration
EPA Great Lakes National Program Manager Susan Hedman spoke at the Sept. 9, 2013 Great Lakes Public Forum in Milwaukee to highlight the most important actions the Unite States has taken to protect and restore the Great Lakes.
"We have achieved some extraordinary results this year by combining GLRI rsources with federal agency base budget funding," she said.
"We're beginning to see significan+t results and I am hopeful that - if we can sustain this level of effort - there will be real improvement in the State of the Lakes over the next few years."
The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is the largest investment in the Great Lakes in two decades.

A task force of eleven federal agencies developed a plan to put the President's historic initiative into action. This action plan covers fiscal years 2010 through 2014 and addresses five urgent focus areas:
- Cleaning up toxics and areas of concern;
- Combating invasive species;
- Promoting nearshore health by protecting watersheds from polluted run-off;
- Restoring wetlands and other habitats; and
- Working with partners on outreach.
