For more information about stormwater management, see the Related Links page and consult the following resources:
- Stormwater Management at the EPA Headquarters Office Complex
This page, hosted by EPA’s Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds, offers additional details about the stormwater management projects at EPA Headquarters.
- EPA’s Low Impact Development (LID) page
This page, hosted by EPA’s Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds, offers a wealth of LID resources, including fact sheets, reports, and design and guidance manuals.
- EPA’s Stormwater Management Model
The EPA Stormwater Management Model (SWMM) is a dynamic rainfall-runoff simulation model used for simulation of runoff quantity and quality from primarily urban areas. SWMM tracks the quantity and quality of runoff, and the flow rate, flow depth, and quality of water in pipes and channels during a simulation period. SWMM is widely used throughout the world for planning, analysis and design related to stormwater runoff, combined sewers, sanitary sewers, and other drainage systems in urban areas, with many applications in non-urban areas as well.
- Green Infrastructure Types, Applications, and Design Approaches to Manage Wet Weather
EPA’s Office of Wastewater Management collects resources and examples relating to many different green infrastructure technologies.
- National Menu of Stormwater Best Management Practices
The National Menu of Stormwater Best Management Practices, maintained by EPA’s Office of Wastewater Management, provides a searchable database of stormwater best management practices.
- National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program
This page contains technical and regulatory information about the NPDES stormwater program. It is organized according to the three types of regulated stormwater discharges: municipal separate storm sewer systems, construction activities, and industrial activities. It also provides links to general stormwater topics and available tools.
- Reduce Runoff video
EPA and the U.S. Botanic Garden produced a 9-minute video, “Reduce Runoff: Slow It Down, Spread It Out, Soak It In,” that highlights techniques such as rain gardens, green roofs, and rain barrels to help manage stormwater runoff. The film showcases green techniques that are being used in urban areas to reduce the effects of stormwater runoff on the quality of downstream receiving waters.
- Whole Building Design Guide LID section
The Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) is a Web-based portal providing government and industry practitioners with one-stop access to up-to-date information on a wide range of building-related guidance, criteria and technology from a “whole buildings” perspective. This page explains LID principles, provides examples, analyzes benefits and cost savings, and describes common LID technologies.
