Greening EPA: Honors and Awards for EPA's Green Campus at Research Triangle Park, NC

EPA's campus in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (RTP) has received numerous honors. Many of these are related to our efforts to develop facilities and programs that support the health of people and the planet. Highlights:
 
  • 2015
    • US Green Building council (USGBC) has awarded the Building A-Administration Wing with the Leadership in Energy & Environmental design (LEED) Gold rating. LEED is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices
  • 2014
    • Environmental Stewardship Initiative (ESI) offer by the State of North Carolina, specifically the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources recognizes the success of EPA-RTP's Environmental Management System (EMS) program
  • 2013
    • Carolina Parent Award - 50 Family-Friendly: Top 50 companies in the Triangle that adopt philosophies and policies that help working parents balance work and family
    • Federal Occupational Health (FOH) presented their "Outstanding Wellness/Fitness Center Award" to the Healthy Environments Fitness Center. This is a supreme honor for FOH fitness and wellness programs
  • 2012
    • The Working Mothers' Network awarded EPA-RTP as one of the Top 50 Family Friendly Companies for promoting balance between work and family life
    • "Golden Modes Award" (Employer Commuting Honor Trophy) Recognized by the Triangle-wide smart commute for promoting alternative transportation in traveling to work, such as van-pooling, bus riding, car-pooling and bicycling
  • 2011
    • Federal Occupational Health (FOH) presented their “Excellent Achievement Award” to the Healthy Environments Fitness Center. This is a supreme honor for FOH fitness and wellness programs.
    • CFC Top Perch Award - in recognition of the generous contributions of EPA-RTP employees and the efforts of our CFC keyworkers
    • Alfred P. Sloan Award - a 5th time winner of this distinguished award proves EPA-RTP's commitment to workplace flexibility
    • Carolina Parenting Magazine named EPA in their Top 50 Family Friendly Places to Work
    • The Scientist Magazine has again named EPA-RTP as one of the top three Best Places to Work for Post-Doctoral Fellows, a national honor
    • ServiceSource presented EPA-RTP with the Government Customer of the Year Award for its commitment to working with the disabled
  • 2010
    • Alfred P. Sloan Award - a 4th time winner of this distinguished award proves EPA-RTP's commitment to workplace flexibility
    • Carolina Parent Award - Family Friendly 50: Top 50 companies in the Triangle for promoting work-life balance
  • 2009
    • The Federal Electronics Challenge Award is presented to EPA-RTP for deceasing the environmental impact of electronics
    • Durham City-County Appearance Commission and Keep Durham Beautiful recognized EPA's National Computer Center with a Golden Leaf Award of Merit in the Sustainable Properties category
    • Alfred P. Sloan Award - a 3rd time winner of this distinguished award proves EPA-RTP's commitment to workplace flexibility
    • Carolina Parenting Magazine named EPA in their Top 50 Family Friendly Places to Work
    • Federal Occupational Health - named the Healthy Environments Fitness Center at EPA-RTP the Best Federal Fitness Program in the nation
    • The U.S. Department of Energy and the Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee presented EPA-RTP with the Federal Energy and Water Management Award

    • Carolina Parenting Magazine named EPA in their Top 40 Family Friendly Places to Work
    • When Work Works Initiative - awarded the Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, Alfred P. Sloan Award, to EPA - RTP
    • The Scientist Magazine - has again named EPA-RTP as the Best Place to Work for Post-Doctoral Fellows, a national honor
    • Alfred P. Sloan Award - presented for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, distinguishing EPA-RTP as a leading practitioner of workplace flexibility in Durham and across the nation.     • The U.S. Department of Energy -- recognized EPA-RTP with a Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management for efforts in promoting and improving Federal energy management.
  • 2002
    • 2002 - U.S. General Services Administration -- presented EPA with the National Design Excellence Award for sustainable design of the RTP campus.
  • 2001
    • Former President George W. Bush - recognized the EPA-RTP campus project with his Closing the Circle Award for greening the government.
    • U.S. General Services Administration - gave EPA their national, Planet GSA Demolition Derby Award for 90% construction waste recycling
    • U.S. General Services Administration - presented their Model Sustainable Facility national environmental award.
  • 2000
    • Former Vice President Al Gore - through the National Partnership for Reinventing Government, presented EPA-RTP with the Hammer Award for sustainable design and construction innovations.
    • The Council for Excellence in Government and the Ford Foundation - cited the EPA-RTP Campus as one of the 100 top innovations in the country.
  • 1998
    • The International Green Building Challenge - recognized EPA's RTP campus as the top-rated project in the United States.
