Currently, City of Edmond facilities get approximately 73% of its energy from renewable energy production. Edmond Electric's Pure and Simple Wind Power Program is open to all utility customers. When customers purchase Pure and Simple, it helps support clean, renewable wind energy. The goal is to improve energy efficiency in City facilities, and through citizen participation by utilizing new and existing technology that may reduce overall costs while mitigating harmful effects to the environment. The Pure and Simple Program is an affordable and easy way to help our environment. With Pure and Simple, the customer chooses how much wind energy they would like to support. They can choose a fixed number of Pure and Simple blocks (100 kWh each) or choose the 100% Pure and Simple option. Currently, 11.31% of Edmond Electric's total electrical load is generated by wind power. Geothermal energy is another way in which the City is saving on energy costs, and using renewable energy sources to benefit the environment. The City had approximately 232.5 tons of geothermal operating in 2012. That translates to approximately 325,500 kWh saved for the City of Edmond, utilizing geothermal.
