Augsburg College educates students to be informed citizens, thoughtful stewards, critical thinkers, and responsible leaders. The Augsburg experience is supported by an engaged community that is committed to intentional diversity in its life and work. An Augsburg education is defined by excellence in the liberal arts and professional studies, guided by the faith and values of the Lutheran church, and shaped by its urban and global settings.
Augsburg College signed on to the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) in 2007 and in doing so committed to becoming carbon neutral as soon as possible. The College began purchasing wind energy from our local provider in 2008 as a result of students wanting to contribute to the College's effort to reduce its carbon footprint. Students approved the use of a small portion of their student activities fee to pay the premium associated with purchasing wind energy for the residence halls. The College phased in the purchase of wind energy for the remaining buildings on campus in 2009 and 2010 and now 100 percent of the electricity used on campus is covered by renewable energy credits for wind energy. The College’s carbon footprint is reduced 41 percent as a result of purchasing wind energy credits and we have also contributed to the growth of wind energy production capacity in the state of Minnesota as well.
