Effective March 2014, the City of Worcester increased its purchase of green power from 15 percent (8,100,000 kWh) to 25 percent (14,500,000 kWh). The City's commitment to green power is based on three factors: economic, environmental and educational. Long-term price stability coupled with direct evidence to green businesses of its commitment to green power underscores the economic case. The direct environmental benefits are also significant. However, the educational component is most important driver. Worcester inform its residents, businesses and students of the benefits of green power in particular and sustainability as a whole, and guides them to the resources they need to invest in green energy and sustainability.
