Clif Bar & Company is an Emeryville, California-based maker of nutritious and organic foods and drinks for people on-the-go. A commitment to taking responsibility for their climate footprint is at the heart of their green power generating and purchasing strategy.
In 2010, Clif Bar moved into their new green headquarters which received LEED Platinum certification in 2012. Now fully operational, a smart solar array is generating 90 percent of this headquarters’ electricity. Seventy percent of the hot water is also generated by solar thermal. Clif Bar also encourages employees to save energy, use renewable energy, and reduce their carbon footprint through their Cool Commute and Cool Home programs. Clif Bar also encourages their supply chain partners to measure and reduce their carbon footprints and join the EPA Green Power Partnership. To date, two of our supply chain partners, States Logistics and FSTlogistics have joined the GPP.
Clif Bar is a 2003 & 2004 Green Power Leadership Award winner. In addition to the energy generated by the solar array, Clif Bar tracks and offsets energy use by their marketing fleet, by business travel, and by their tier 1 supply chain. In 2007, Clif Bar & Company offset their historical carbon footprint dating back to the company’s start in 1992. Clif Bar purchases all carbon offsets or RECs through their partnership with NativeEnergy 's "help build" model which invests in socially responsible renewable energy projects like school-owned wind turbines.
