Groundswell and its partners bring together groups of mission-based organizations to purchase clean energy at affordable rates. To date, Community Power Program institutions have purchased over 65 million kWh of wind energy while saving over $600,000, in partnership with Interfaith Power and Light (IPL), Coalition of Lutherans Advancing in Mission (CLAIM), Friends of Choice in Urban Schools (FOCUS) and others.
Groundswell supports faith, education, affordable housing and nonprofit organizations that are committed to serving their communities. Using our shared purchasing power, through a model we call civic consumption, we make it affordable and accessible to join the clean energy movement.
Through the Community Power Program, 120 houses of worship of all faiths, schools, affordable housing providers, and nonprofit organizations in Washington, D.C. and Maryland have switched to 100% wind energy and saved money to reinvest in their missions.
