| Partner Profile Iowa State University is a large land-grant research institution located in Ames, Iowa. The university has over 30,000 students on the campus. The university operates a large combined heat and power plant to provide electricity, steam and chilled water to the campus. The university is capable of generating 100 percent of it's own power or can purchase wholesale electricity from the MISO market. Iowa State University is purchasing wind energy through a power purchase agreement. The university partnered with the local municipal utility in purchasing bulk wind power from a local wind farm. For calendar year 2012, the wind power received by Iowa State totaled nearly 18 million kilowatt-hours, which equates to over 9 percent of the university's electrical consumption. | |
