Partner Profile
Patagonia, Inc., based in Ventura, California, is a designer of outdoor, surf and sport-related apparel, equipment, footwear and accessories. Patagonia is known for its commitment to authentic product quality and environmental activism. Currently Patagonia’s Ventura, Santa Monica and Pasadena locations use just over 1 million kWhs per year. Approximately 12% of that use is generated by solar energy produced by 2 solar arrays at its Southern California headquarters. The intention of these systems is to reduce Patagonia’s dependence on non-renewable energy. By generating energy Patagonia is able to reduce use of oil, production of acid rain, smog and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, we trim our dependence on fossil fuels and the foreign governments that control them, and now we have covered parking. “Generating our own clean, renewable solar power supports Patagonia’s deep commitment to sustainability and reduces our operating expenses,” said Elissa Loughman. “The process of installing solar arrays at our headquarters has given us insight into exactly how much energy we use. We use a lot, and it takes a lot of space to install enough panels to significantly reduce that use. This insight has inspired us to implement projects and programs that will reduce our overall energy use.”
