Since 1970, Patton Boggs (PB) has actively practiced environmental and energy law, and in the last decade that practice has included substantial work on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainability issues. To be consistent with that practice, since 2009, PB has purchased green energy offsets for all of its electrical usage and for the estimated carbon emissions for air travel on firm business.
PB’s commitment to green power has helped re-energize our pro bono and sustainability practice. Since 1974, PB has provided pro bono counsel to environmental organizations, work which continues currently in efforts to adopt green infrastructure to improve the Anacostia River, to promote “leave-no-trace” camping, and to ease the introduction of innovative energy efficiency and sustainable technology. PB is also training key personnel in LEED procedures, has several offices in LEED-certified buildings, is working with one of its landlords to certify its largest office under LEED-EB procedures, and emphasizes recycled materials in its purchasing. According to Managing Partner, Ed Newberry, “Our green power commitment is integral to our commitment to environmentally benign operations, a commitment we make to our community, our clients, and our partners and employees.”
