Staples, one of the world largest office supply companies, is recognized for its’ special achievement as an ENERGY STAR Leader for a 11.3 percent portfolio-wide reduction in energy intensity. Staples energy conservation and green power investments have reduced carbon emissions 66 percent from a 2001 baseline to 2011, despite same period revenue growth of 220 percent. With their aggressive energy conservation and green power purchases, Staples received the prestigious ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year 2011, ENERGY STAR Leader, and the Green Power Leadership Awards in 2011 as in past years. Staples currently purchases renewable energy certificates (RECs), but the company also purchases direct renewable power through various utility programs and hosts 36 on-site solar installations producing approximately 14 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity every year. Staples receives high rankings on EPA's Top 30 Retailers, as well as Fortune 500 companies and Top 100 partner lists.
