| Partner Profile University of Tennessee, Knoxville's (UT) green power commitment was born from a student-led initiative to create a new student fee dedicated to the purchase of green power. Working in partnership with students, in 2005 the University implemented a new Student Environmental Initiatives Facilities Fee of $5 per student per semester (as of April 2012, $10 per semester for in-state students, $35 per semester for out-of-state students). The fee pays for UT's annual green power purchase as well as for campus environmental initiatives from recycling to energy conservation. The green power purchase has provided a platform for the University to communicate with both internal and external audiences about the importance of environmental stewardship. In addition, it provides an example of how the University is working both to educate and serve the State of Tennessee. | |
