| Partner Profile The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the premier government agency dedicated to the conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish, wildlife and plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. As part of the Department of the Interior’s commitment to building a coordinated strategy to respond to climate change impacts on the nation’s natural resources, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has developed a strategic plan to guide the agency’s responses to the unprecedented threats. One of the primary goals of this plan is reducing our “carbon footprint” by using less energy, consuming fewer materials, and appropriately altering our land management practices. For the past 3 years, the Pacific Regional Office has committed to purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) equal to 100 percent if its electricity use. “We have a goal of being a carbon neutral organization by 2020, and this is a major step toward achieving that,” said Robyn Thorson, Director of the Fish and Wildlife Service’s Pacific Region. “Purchasing renewable energy is just one more proactive measure we are taking to avoid global greenhouse gas emissions, minimize unavoidable emissions, and offset remaining emissions.” | |
