Federal Vehicle Acquisition     DRAFT

Low GHG-Emitting Vehicles
Section 141 of the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act requires federal agencies to acquire low greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting vehicles. Low GHG-emitting vehicles are:
  • Any passenger car that achieves a GHG score of 7 or higher when operated with gasoline, diesel, or CNG.
  • Any light-duty truck or medium-duty passenger vehicle that achieves a GHG score of 6 or higher when operated with gasoline, diesel, or CNG.
  • Any passenger car that achieves a GHG score of 6 or higher when operated with E-85.
  • Any light-duty truck or medium-duty passenger vehicle that achieves a GHG score of 5 or higher when operated with E-85.
Users should note that the list of qualifying flexible fuel vehicles is a separate option under Vehicle Type below. Some flexible fuel vehicles only qualify when operated with E-85. Therefore, in order for these flexible fuel vehicles to qualify as low GHG-emitting vehicles the vehicle must be operated with E-85. It is the GHG score the vehicle achieves when operated with E-85 that qualifies the vehicle as low GHG-emitting.
