| Partner Profile The Adler Planetarium, America's First Planetarium, welcomes over 400,000 visitors annually. The museum is home to two full-size planetarium theaters and a historic antique instrument collection. Adler Planetarium uses green power for a portion of the museum's energy use. When the City of Chicago's Department of the Environment encouraged the planetarium to purchase alternative power, the Adler not only complied, but even doubled the suggested amount of its green power purchase. Adler found that the process of purchasing green power is simple and affordable and results in a significant reduction in its environmental footprint. Another major benefit to the museum is being perceived as a leader in the Green Museum community. "The 5.5 billion inhabitants of earth are all astronauts living on a spaceship that has limited resources. We have to use these resources very wisely if this ship is to keep us alive," says Captain James Lovell, Commander of Apollo 13 and Adler Planetarium Board Member. | |
