Partner Profile Auraria Higher Education Center, which houses the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver and University of Colorado at Denver, is purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs) equal to all of its power needs. The Center entered a three-year contract with a national REC marketer for more 40 million kWh of RECs annually sourced from wind energy projects nationally. Since fall 2004, students have paid an additional $1 to $4 fee per semester to fund a variety of sustainability programs. In April 2007, more than 90 percent of students at the campus voted to renew and expand the sustainable campus program, which included the 3-year renewable energy contract.
