| Partner Profile Lacey, Washington's municipal government serves a population of 38,040 residents and university students. The community is located on the southern tip of Puget Sound, centered between Mt. Rainier and Olympic National Parks. A Green Power Leadership Club member, the City of Lacey began meeting its municipal electrical energy needs through the exclusive use of green power in July 2007. The city uses 100 percent green electricity in all of its municipal buildings—including its city hall, library, community center, senior center, public works operations center and museum—as well as for powering its water, reclaimed water, wastewater and stormwater utilities, parks and recreation facilities, and more than 3,000 streetlights and traffic signals. The Lacey City Council believes that the exclusive use of green power sets a meaningful example and challenges other large users of electrical energy to consider its use. "Promoting the practical and meaningful use of renewable energy is a key priority in Lacey," commented Lacey Mayor Graeme Sackrison, adding, "We're proud of the leadership our community has demonstrated." | |
