Binational Toxics Strategy
Stakeholder Forum - 1998
IMPLEMENTING THE BINATIONAL
TOXICS STRATEGY
Attachment A
Changes in the Implementation Plan from June 1997 Version
Background Section
- Addition of a more substantial background section, describing the "new way of doing business" concept inherent in the implementation process.
Changes in the Proposed Governing/Management Structure
Deletion of the Steering Team
- In the June 1997 draft, the proposed management structure was comprised of a Steering
Team (composed of government, industry, environmental and Tribal representatives), and
various Subgroups.
- The final Implementation Plan does not include a Steering Team, but rather envisions
chemical-specific Work Groups, with one overall Integration Work Group. The Integration
Work Group will work on organizational, administrative and other cross-cutting issues.
- Deletion of the Steering Team will provide for a less-hierarchical, more consensus-based approach to implementation.
Addition of a Binational Strategy Stakeholder Forum
- Addition of a stakeholder Forum which will serve as a general meeting of the entire stakeholder community, to exchange information and to gauge success/progress-to-date. It is envisioned that the Forum will be held twice a year.
Addition of a "Governments" Section
- This section, added at the suggestion of our stakeholders, describes the roles and responsibilities of the Federal, State, Provincial governments and Tribes/First Nations.
Reporting/Communication
- Additional section added to emphasize the fact that we will use electronic communication, e.g., e-mail, web page, as the preferred method of communication with our stakeholders.
