Support and Training
EPA is developing risk assessment training programs and tools to help risk assessors and risk managers understand the state-of-the-science used in human health risk assessments. For example, EPA’s Risk Assessment and Training (RATE) program will provide a comprehensive set of training modules that can by used by EPA and other risk assessors to learn about the current, state-of-the-science risk assessment practices used by EPA. EPA’s Health and Environmental Research Online (HERO) database provides an easy way to view the scientific literature behind EPA science assessments. The HERO database is an important part of EPA’s transparency efforts, as it includes more than 300,000 scientific articles from the peer-reviewed literature used by EPA to develop Integrated Science Assessments (ISAs) and Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessments.
