About Mandatory Reporting of GHG Emissions

Mandatory reporting requirements for Electrical Transmission and Distribution Equipment Use are set forth under EPA's Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GGRP). Facilities are required to report SF6 and PFC emissions under the GGRP if their total nameplate capacity of SF6 and PFC-containing equipment exceeds 17,820 pounds, which is estimated to be the equivalent to an emissions threshold of 25,000 metric tons of CO2e per year.

Reports under this regulation must be submitted annually and provide data collected during the previous calendar year (i.e. reporting year). Mandatory reports for each reporting year are due to EPA on March 31st of the following calendar year and must be submitted through the Electronic Greenhouse Gas Reporting Tool (e-GGRT).

About Voluntary Reporting of GHG Emissions

Voluntary reporting of emissions under the SF6 Emission Reduction Partnership for Electric Power Systems will continue for Partner companies that do not meet the threshold of Subpart DD of the mandatory EPA GGRP. Partners that are required to report under the mandatory EPA GGRP no longer need to submit data via the Partnership report form.

Voluntary reports submitted under the Partnership are due to EPA on March 31st annually, providing SF6 emission estimates for the previous calendar year.

A copy of the SF6 Emission Inventory Reporting Protocol and Form for reporting to the Partnership can be downloaded here.
