Joseph J. Martyak
Biography
Joseph J. Martyak is EPA's Associate Administrator for the Office of Public Affairs, serving as the Administrator's senior advisor on all matters of public affairs and issue management. He brings to EPA over twenty-five years experience in policy development, strategic planning, corporate and government relations, public affairs and communications, and management implementation. During his career, Mr. Martyak has served the following Washington, D.C., private and public entities: Executive Vice President and General Manger of Golin/Harris International 1999-2000; Vice President for Public Affairs for ICI Americas, Inc. 1996-99; Adjunct Professor for "Public Policy Strategy for Global Corporations" at Georgetown University 1999; Vice President for Corporate Affairs of Rhone-Poulenc Inc.1987-96; Principal Deputy Undersecretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior 1985-87; Senior Washington Representative for Union Carbide Corporation 1979-85; Legislative Representative for the American Gas Association 1977-79; and, a Legislative Assistant for the U.S. House Commerce Committee 1975-77. Mr. Martyak earned a J.D. and an A.B. in English and French, cum laude, from Georgetown University. He has held offices or board membership in the following business and civic organizations: Organization for International Investment; European/American Business Council; French/American Chamber of Commerce; Alliance Francaise, Washington Opera; and the Georgetown Alumni Association.
