U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Carol M. Browner has named Loretta M. Ucelli Associate Administrator of EPA's Office of Communications, Education and Public Affairs. In this position she will serve as chief Agency spokesperson, direct public affairs, environmental education, publications, press and community relations and oversee Agency liaison to constituent groups.
Before joining EPA, Ucelli was Director of Communications for the National Abortion Rights Action League and prior to that, held the same position at American Federation of Government Employees. From 1986 - 1988, she was Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications for the National Association of Broadcasters. She worked on the campaign staff of the Dukakis/Bentsen presidential campaign and she also has held positions as Regional Press Secretary for the Mondale/Ferraro Campaign, 1984; Florida Press Secretary, Carter/Mondale Campaign, 1980; News Editor, KDKA Radio, Pittsburgh, Pa., 1979-1980; Anchor and New Director, WCLG Radio, Morgantown, West Virginia, 1977-1979.
Ucelli received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1976 from West Virginia University. She is a native of Staten Island, N.Y.
