Lynn R. Goldman, M.D.
Biography

Dr. Goldman joined EPA in October, 1993 to head the Office of Prevention, Pesticides, and Toxic Substances (OPPTS). As OPPTS Assistant Administrator, she is responsible for implementing the nation's pesticide, toxic substances, and pollution prevention laws. She has promoted a mission of advancing pollution prevention, reducing risks of chemicals and pesticides to health and the environment and furthering the public's right to know. Ensuring protection of children and addressing emerging issues like endocrine disruptors are her highest priorities.
Dr. Goldman is a pediatrician and an epidemiologist. She received her Bachelor's degree in Conservation of Natural Resources from the University of California (UC), Berkeley. She received her M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University, and her M.D. from UC, San Francisco. She completed a residency in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Oakland and a residency in Preventive Medicine at UC Berkeley. Prior to joining EPA, Dr. Goldman served in several positions at the California Department of Health Services, most recently as head of the Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control. She has conducted public health investigations on pesticides, childhood lead poisoning, and other environmental hazards.
She has served on numerous expert committees for the National Research Council (NRC), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Outside of work, Dr. Goldman is married to an environmental chemist at the Food and Drug Administration and the mother of a one year old daughter. They enjoy spending time with their pet birds and dogs. If she can find the time, she likes to garden, play the flute, ski, scuba dive, and hike. She was born and raised in Galveston, Texas, where her mother still raises Longhorns.
