The U.S. Senate today confirmed the appointment of John A. Moore as Assistant Administrator for Pesticides and Toxic Substances for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Moore will be responsible for the implementation of both the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
"With the confirmation of Jack Moore, EPA gains the expertise of both a highly skilled scientist and a highly competent administrator," said EPA Administrator William D. Ruckelshaus. "Both of these talents are required of the individual who administers our complicated pesticides and toxic substances control laws."
Prior to his EPA appointment, Dr. Moore served as Deputy Director of the National Toxicology Program (NTP) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), a position he held since that program began in 1978. During the same time he served as Director of Toxicology Research and Testing, in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences located in the Research Triangle Park, N.C. The National Institute of Environmental Sciences is a component of the National Institutes of Health.
He is a board certified toxicologist and has served on a variety of national and international scientific panels on dioxin.
Moore graduated from Michigan State University in 1961 where he also received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (1963). He and his wife will be moving to Washington, D.C. from Raleight, N.C., where he has been located.
