Timothy J. Fields

Biography
[EPA Office of Brownfields Cleanup and Redevelopment]

Timothy Fields, Jr. is Acting Assistant Administrator for the U.S. Enviromental Protection Agency's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER). In that capacity, he is responsible for the national oversight and management of the Superfund, Brownfields Redevelopment, Hazardous and Solid Waste Management, Underground Storage Tank, Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Prevention, Technology Innovation, Oil Spill Cleanup, and Federal Facilities Site Remediation programs. Before assuming that responsibility, he served as principal deputy assistant administrator for OSWER for three years. Earlier, Mr. Fields was director of EPA's Superfund Revitalization Office. He also has served EPA as deputy director of the Office of Emergency and Remedial Response, and director of the Emergency Response Division, and deputy director of the Hazardous Site Control Division (EPA's Superfund remedial program). Mr. Fields has also held a variety of supervisory and staff positions in the Office of Mobile Sources and Office of Solid Waste. Since September 1997, he also has served as chair of the EPA Human Resources Council. He has been employed by EPA in a variety of positions for 27 years. Before joining EPA, Mr. Fields served in the U.S. Public Health Service as a commissioned officer.

Mr. Fields holds a B.S. degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, an M.S. degree in operations research from The George Washington University, and has pursued additional graduate studies at Ohio State University. His major awards include the 1993 Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Executive Service, 1989 and 1996 Presidential Rank Awards for Meritorious Executive Service, an EPA silver medal, three EPA bronze medals, and several other awards for outstanding executive performance.
