President Clinton today announced nominations for four U.S. EPA Assistant Administrator vacancies in the Offices of Air; Water; Solid Waste and Emergency Response; the Office of Administration and Resources Management; and the Associate Administrator for Regional Operations and State and Local Relations. PRESIDENT NAMES FIVE TO EPA (excerpt)

(Washington, DC) The President announced his choices for five key positions at the Environmental Protection Agency today, declaring his intention to nominate Jonathan Cannon to be the Assistant Administrator for Administration and Resources Management, and the Chief Financial Officer; Elliot Laws to be Assistant Administrator for Solid Waste and Emergency Response; Mary Nichols to be Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation; Robert Perciasepe to be Assistant Administrator for Water; and Shelly Metzenbaum to be Associate Administrator for Regional Operations and State/:Local Relations.

Robert Perciasepe is Maryland's Secretary of the Environment, a position he has held since 1990. He was previously Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary. Before joining the state government in 1986, he worked for more than a decade as the Chief of Planning (1976-86) and as Assistant Director (1986-87) of the City of Baltimore Planning Department. Perciasepe holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from Cornell University and a masters in Environmental Planning from Syracuse University's Maxwell School.
