Biography
[EPA press release - October 23, 1989]
The U.S. Senate has confirmed LaJuana S. Wilcher as Assistant Administrator for Water of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. An attorney and a biologist, she previously served at the Agency from November 1983 to July 1986 as an assistant to the Deputy Administrator and a special assistant to the General Counsel.
"LaJuana Wilcher brings a combination of legal skills and environmental commitment to the tough job of administering our nation's water quality programs," said EPA Administrator William K. Reilly. "Our agenda in this area is formidable--groundwater, pollution from non-point sources, wetlands protection, marine and coastal pollution, enforcement and stopping water pollution before it becomes a problem. I have every confidence that she is going to be a great asset to this Agency."
Wilcher was a law partner with Bishop, Cook, Purcell and Reynolds in Washington, D.C., where she specialized in environmental law and litigation. She was with the firm from 1986 to 1989.
She was a special assistant to the General Counsel, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 1983.
From April 1980 to February 1983, she was associated with the law firm of Reynolds, Catron and Johnston in Bowling Green, Ky.
Wilcher was graduated from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green in 1977 and received a law degree in 1980 from Salmon P. Chase College of Law, Northern Kentucky University. Raised in Bowling Green, Ky., she currently lives in Annandale, Va.
