Robert E. Layton, Jr.

Biography

EPA Administrator Lee M. Thomas has named Robert E. Layton, Jr. to be the new Regional Administrator for EPA's Region 6, headquartered in Dallas. He succeeds Dick Whittington, who resigned in September.

A native Texan, Layton resides in Tyler, Texas, where he has served on the city council and as mayor. Layton was graduated from Texas A & M in 1947 with a bachelor's in aeronautical engineering. Since 1950, he has operated his own engineering company.

Thomas said, "Bob Layton has the knowledge of regional environmental concerns, coupled with hands-on management and engineering experience, that uniquely qualify him for the job of Regional Administrator. We're fortunate to have him join EPA, and I look forward to working with him."
