Dana A. Rasmussen

Biography

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator William K. Reilly today named Dana A. Rasmussen as Regional Administrator for EPA Region 10, headquartered in Seattle. She replaces Thomas P. Dunne, who has been Acting Regional Administrator since February.

Rasmussen will oversee the Agency's full range of activities in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Reilly said, "Dana Rasmussen will be a strong advocate for the environment and a tough, fair enforcer of the nation's environmental laws. She is a capable administrator and a good manager. I'm pleased she is joining the EPA management team and I look forward to working with her."

Since 1985, Rasmussen had been Assistant Vice President and Chief Counsel for Federal Regions of U.S. WEST in Washington, D.C. In this position, she managed a staff of attorneys and other professionals and support personnel and helped develop the company's strategic and policy positions. From 1979 to 1985, she was an attorney with Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. in Portland, Oregon. From 1977 to 1979, she practiced law with a firm in Portland and from 1972 to 1974 she was Legislative Assistant, specializing in energy and environmental issues, to Congressman John Dellenback of Oregon.

A native of Portland, Rasmussen received her bachelor's degree from Stanford University and her law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law. She also is a graduate of the Stanford University Business School's Executive Program.

Rasmussen is a member of the American Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar and has been active in numerous civic and professional organizations.

Reilly also announced today that Gerald Emison, who has been with EPA for 13 years, has been named Deputy Regional Administrator for Region 10. Until this appointment, Emison was the Director of EPA's Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
