Robie G. Russell

Biography

Administrator Lee M. Thomas of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named Robie G. Russell as EPA Regional Administrator for the agency's Pacific Northwest Region.

The Region includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska.

Russell, 37, has served as Senior Deputy Attorney General for the state of Idaho since 1981. As chief of the local government division, he has dealt with a broad range of issues, including land use, elections, local government law, disaster planning, public meetings and records, and Indian law.

He was Idaho Deputy Attorney General and acting chief of the natural resources division from 1979 to 1981 with responsibility for public lands, water resources, environmental protection, parks and recreation, fish and game, and agriculture.

Thomas said, "We are fortunate to have an executive of Robie Russell's experience and ability to manage the huge area included in EPA's Region 10 in the Pacific Northwest. He brings to the task extensive knowledge of its environmental problems, and we are indeed happy to have him aboard."

A native of Moscow, Idaho, Russell received a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Idaho in 1973 and did graduate work in business administration at that institution's graduate center in Boise in 1973 and 1974. He received a law degree from the University of Idaho in 1978. He was with the law firm of Bielenberg, Anderson and Walker in Moscow, Idaho, from 1977 to 1979 prior to joining the Attorney General's office. He received the Idaho Cities Boyd Martin award in 1985 and numerous other distinguished service and merit awards from the University of Idaho, Idaho Association of Counties and the state.
