Objective: Provide an introduction to key sections of the Clean Water Act (CWA) and focus on how Tribes can use those programs to protect human health and water resources on Reservation lands. Introduction to Section 106 of the Clean Water Act (CWA):

Grants for Pollution Control Programs

Summer, 2009*

Objective: Provide introductory information on the Section 106 program, with particular emphasis on what is needed to establish a water quality program. This session is intended for those with less than 18 months of experience with the Section 106 program and those who wish to refresh their basic knowledge of the program.

Introduction to Section 319 of the Clean Water Act (CWA):

Nonpoint Source (NPS) Management Programs

• Session 1: July 22, 2009, 1:00–2:30 Eastern
Objective: Discuss NPS pollution, common best management practices, and using section 106 or other funding (other than 319) to help implement an NPS Program.

• Session 2: August 12, 2009, 1:00–2:30 Eastern
Objective: Discuss 319 eligibility requirements and developing or revising NPS assessment and management plans.

• Session 3: September 9, 2009, 1:00–2:30 Eastern
Objective: Discuss base and competitive funding processes and developing a good work plan.

• Session 4: Early spring 2010, 1:00–2:30 Eastern*
Objective: Discuss outreach and education tools to gain support for watershed assessments, watershed plans, and implementing management practices to address polluted runoff.
