Evaluating Innovation Results

The greatest benefit of EPA's innovation work comes from applying insights acquired during experimental pilots to our national programs. Consequently, EPA's goal is to take good ideas proven on a small scale and apply them on a larger one to extend the benefits to society.

This "scale-up" is not an automatic process. It requires a thorough evaluation of results and careful thought about how an approach can be replicated effectively in a similar or modified form. EPA has established taylored evaluation approaches, tools and resources to support this critical stage of the innovation scale up process.

For more information on how EPA is able to capitalize on lessons learned and incorporate that experience into other programs, visit Evaluation of Environmental Programs.

The following examples highlight how innovative approaches that are tested and evaluated can lead to new ways of doing business inside and outside the Agency.
