Environment and Trade
Regions

It is increasingly clear that environmental problems are not confined by national borders. An environmental problem occurring in one site can affect people everywhere. International cooperation has thus become a key factor in protecting human health and safeguarding the environment. As a result, every major EPA program area has an important and indispensable international component.
The environment and international trade and investment are inextricably connected because all economic activity is initially based on the productive capacity of the environment. Within EPA, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) participates in an interagency process to develop policy on trade and investment and the environment. This site describes EPA activities related to international trade and the environment.
