JTR Grants Awarded:
- Alaska ('95 - Fiberboard Demonstration Project)
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, in collaboration
with the Alaska Center for Appropriate Technology (ACAT) and the Forest
Products Lab (FPL), developed a formaldehyde-free engineered medium
density fiberboard product composed of waste paper and waste wood fiber.
FPL has finalized a suitable adhesive and performed strength and durability
tests. A prototype production run of full scale 4' x 8' sheets has been
completed as has a market analysis. A detailed business plan for an
Alaskan miniplant is being developed.
