Washington ('95 - Wine Bottle Reuse Demonstration Project)
The Clean Washington Center, in collaboration with Skookum Corp. (a nonprofit organization for at-risk individuals), developed a business plan for a wine bottle washing operation on a statewide scale. This plan was based on Skookum's experiences with a pilot operation in Port Townsend, Washington, in which the center provided technical assistance. A resource manual, documenting operational details, was developed and should prove invaluable to any individual or comunity exploring bottle resterilization opportunities. For more information on the project, including final deliverables and other related information, link to EPA Region 10's Web site.
-
CWC ('97 - Rural Recycling Development in Alaska, Idaho, and Montana)
The objective of this project is to develop and stimulate sustainable recycling markets in Alaska, Idaho, and Montana. This will be accomplished by forming partnerships between the CWC and local economic development communities and then implementing specific projects. The proposed project emphasizes the development of local self-reliance based on proven and innovative new uses of recycled materials. For more information on the project, link to EPA Region 10's Web site.
The project goals resulting from these cooperative efforts include:
- job creation and retention in small businesses in the recycling sector
- increased diversion of recycled materials
- increased utilization of recycled materials
- higher and more stable prices for recycled commodities
- application of successful implementation methods
- and lessons learned to future projects in other rural regions
