What is it?

Rodent baits are used to get rid of mice and rats that can come into the home or get into outdoor sheds in your yard. These products are usually in the form of powders or little pellets and have no odor or smell. They are very poisonous. After the mice or rats eat the bait, they become sick and will die. This type of pesticide is called a rodenticide. Why? It kills rodents.

What's in it?

The pesticide commonly found in baits is known as warfarin.

What health and safety things do you need to think about when using baits?

Because rodent baits are very dangerous your parents need to be the ones to use them. Remind them to always "Read the Label First" to know how to properly use these products and for safety information. They should never be stored or located in an area near food for people or pets, or where kids or pets might get into them.

If you find rodent bait in your home, stay away from it. Tell your parents that you found it. Let them know that maybe it is not in a safe place. If you happen to get any on your skin, wash it off and tell your parents immediately. Even small amounts of these pesticides can be very harmful and make you sick. Your exposure to them is important know.
