I2SL is pleased to announce an exciting new tour opportunity for Labs21 2008 Annual Conference attendees: an evening tour and reception at two of Silicon Valley's premier data centers, Sun Microsystems and NetApp. Participants of this tour will get a first-hand look inside two of the most high-tech, innovative, and energy-efficient data centers in the world, and learn from industry experts how these specialized facilities are designed and maintained to operate at maximum efficiency.

A reception prior to the tour will provide the perfect venue for attendees to relax and network with other industry professionals. Complimentary tour registration will be provided to attendees of the pre-conference Data Centers Save Energy Now Workshop. Space is limited, and priority will be given to attendees of the Data Centers Save Energy Now Workshop. Register today to ensure your space on this unique tour.

About NetApp

  Net App Data Centers

NetApp is a recognized industry leader in the conservation of power and other data centers resources. The company helps its customers reduce power consumption through innovative and efficient storage and data management solutions. NetApp also works aggressively to make its own data centers more efficient, dramatically increasing storage utilization and reducing power consumption through innovative data management strategies. NetApp's new buildings, designed to LEED® standards, implement extensive energy efficiency and water conservation measures. One project alone resulted in a reduced data center footprint of 19.55 racks, decreased chilled water demand by 94 tons, and reduced electricity by 40,000 kilowatt hours per month.

NetApp has received broad industry recognition for its data center efficiency. Most recently, NetApp was named one of the Top 12 Green Information Technology (IT) Companies by Computerworld, was chosen as a winner in InfoWorld's inaugural Green 15 awards, and recently was selected as a winner of the prestigious 2008 Green Enterprise IT Award by the Uptime Institute. In addition, NetApp has developed leading-edge waste management programs that have been recognized with a 2007 "WRAP of the Year" award from the State of California for diverting 1.8 million pounds of materials (60 percent of waste) from the landfill, increasing landfill diversion rate by 10 percent for a second consecutive year, saving more than $45,000 in landfill fees, and recycling more than 650,000 pounds of construction debris. Visit NetApp’s Web site Exit to learn more about their green data center efforts.

Sun Microsystems

Sun Microsystems develops technologies that power the global marketplace, including software, systems, services, and microelectronics that power everything from consumer electronics, to developer tools, to the world's most powerful data centers. Sun's Eco Innovation solutions offer a clear and actionable path to cut data center energy bills and environmental impact, helping to transform technology infrastructure into eco-friendly data centers—strategies it learned from upgrading its own data center facilities.

In 2007, Sun completed a renovation of four of its Bay Area, California, data centers, which involved consolidating 200,000 square feet of racks into just 80,000 square feet of office space. By installing fewer, more energy-efficient racks and utilizing innovative design and cooling techniques, Sun was able to reduce its utility bill by 61 percent at a savings of $1 million per year. In addition, Sun designed its data centers to be fully modular and scalable, allowing for future growth and expansion without requiring significant infrastructure modifications. Sun was awarded an innovation award from Silicon Valley Power for its unique and efficient data center retrofit project. Learn more about Sun Microsystem’s innovative data centers. Exit
