Comment on EPA Regulations at Regulations.gov
Our proposed regulations are almost always open to the public for comment. You may comment on them in several ways. Each rule tells you how in its ADDRESSES section. One method available for every regulation is to comment online via Regulations.gov. It is our official online public docket and comment system for both regulations and significant guidance.
We suggest you first read this introduction to Regulations.gov and some suggestions for how to search for EPA regulations:
- Search for all rules open for comment.
- Search for a specific rule or action.
- Get email updates.
- Additional suggestions.
Search for All Rules Open for Comment
If you are interested in any and all rules open for comment:
- From the Regulations.gov home page, type "EPA" in the field under "Comment or Submission" and click Go.
- Use the "Narrow Results" menu on the left-hand side of the screen to refine your search.
Search for a Specific Rule or Action
If you already have a rule or action in mind that you would like to comment on, the best way to search will depend on how much information you have:
- If you know only the title or subject of the action, the easiest way to search is to enter the full title or keywords in the field under the "Search" section of the Regulations.gov home page. Be as specific as possible to help narrow your search results.
- If you know the Docket or Document ID number, choose the "Advanced Docket Search" or "Advanced Document Search" under the "More Search Options" section.
Get Email Updates
Regulations.gov allows you to set-up email notifications so that you can be alerted when a document (e.g., a proposed rule or a meeting notice) is added to a docket. You must register for notifications for every rule you're interested in. To do so, search for the regulation and then choose "Notification," found under the title of each action.
