Description
OC Waste & Recycling manages the County of Orange's solid waste disposal system which is comprised of three active regional landfills, and numerous closed sites in Southern California. In 1981, OC Waste & Recycling began its public private/partnerships to beneficially utilize LFG, resulting in a successful renewable energy program. Olinda Alpha Landfill hosts two energy plants; an original 5.6-MW internal combustion engine plant and a new 32.5-MW combined-cycle gas turbine plant. The Frank R. Bowerman Landfill is currently in development of a 23-MW energy plant to replace a decommissioned LFG-to-LNG facility. An internal combustion engine plant at the Prima Deshecha Landfill generates 6.3 MW. Coyote Canyon, a closed landfill, has a steam boiler/steam turbine plant that currently produces 5 MW.
