- Sioux Falls is a municipally owned, regional landfill that services a population of ~245,000. The landfill accepts ~170,000 tons of MSW annually and has been in operation since 1979. The landfill grosses ~$2 million in revenue annually from the sale of LFG. The LFG is used by an ethanol plant for process heat.
