Maine
Voluntary Renewable Resources Grant
Maine's Voluntary Renewable Resources Grant, funded by the state's voluntary Public Benefits Fund and administered by the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC), supports small-scale demonstration projects designed to educate communities on the value and cost-effectiveness of using natural resources to generate clean electricity.
Grants are awarded in the form of matching funds for up to 50 percent of project costs, not to exceed $50,000 per project. Awards are made on a competitive basis to those approved projects that qualify as a renewable resource.
To qualify as an eligible renewable resource, a generation facility must:
- Qualify as a small power production facility under Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) rules, or
- Be smaller than 100 megawatts (MW) in capacity and use one or more of the following renewable resources: fuel cells, tidal power, solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, hydropower, biomass energy, and/or municipal solid waste used in a generator in conjunction with recycling.
