Extrapolation of the Biota-Sediment Accumulation Factors (BSAFs) across Species, Ecosystems, and/or Time
Project Summary
Currently, at Superfund sites, bioaccumulation is assessed by performing field measurements and/or developing a mechanistic food web model. Food web models require field data for calibration and verification. Field measurements are costly to perform and time consuming. The development of extrapolation techniques will (if successful) reduce costs and allow quicker assessments of bioaccumulation in the risk assessments performed by EPA’s risk assessors.
